But unlike the SanDisk memory, the Eye-Fi card immediately began streaming the images to the Pictures folder on my Mac. On average, it took the Pro X2 16 seconds to transfer each 18MB raw file.

1. Double-click on Macintosh HD - or in the Finder menu clickFile > New Finder Window
2. Click the Applications folder - if using a Finder Window Applicationswill be in the left side menu.
3. Click the Utilities folder.
4. Double-click Disk Utility.
5. On the left side of the window are the drives connected to the computer. Select the capacity of the drive respective to the one containing the device you wish to format then click the Erase tab.
Example: If the drive is called 'NO NAME', directly above that, you should see the drive capacity of 'XXXX'. Select this capacity.
6. Verify Volume Format is set to MS-DOS file system or exFAT, Scheme is set to “Master Boot Record” (Do NOT select GUID Partition Map) then click Erase.
Instructions below are for 10.13.x (High Sierra)
1. Open Disk Utility. Please See Answer 20985: How to access Disk Utility macOS
2. In the top menu bar, go to View, and choose Show All Devices
3. Select the upper level of the drive you would like to format and click the Erase button
4. Choose how you would like to format the drive
- Enter a Name for your drive
- Choose exFAT or MS-DOS (FAT) for the format
- Choose Master Boot Record for the Scheme
- Click Erase
5. When finished, the drive will be formatted and repartitioned successfully. Click the Done button
NOTE: exFAT is used on SDXC card (64GB and higher).
NOTE: exFAT can be used on flash drives or memory cards to transfer files larger than 4GB.
NOTE: MacOS 10.6.2 or higher is required for exFAT file system. Some older operating systems must have a patch installed before they can use the exFAT file system.
NOTE: If the above steps do NOT resolve the problem or if the lock switch is missing or broken, please back up your data and request a replacement using our online web form.

Rival[edit]
I have to connect my nikon DSLR to my laptop wirelessly. +1 I reckon this is a poor step to have to go through, what if eyefi went under and people wanted to change settings etc? New Eye-Fi card[edit]
On June 10, 2009, Eye-Fi launched a new 4 gb card that supports raw files and peer to peer networking among other features. I've personally tried it and feel it is both unique and notable. Approval in some jurisdictions[edit]
I'm unable to find a list of jurisdictions where use approval is required, as per Canon's user guide notice. Article is very out of date and getting increasingly biased[edit]
This is partly inevitable, as the article is about one company that was a pioneer in a particular field dating back to 2005. But time has moved on, and other players have entered the field. See for example Transcend Crashes the Wireless Memory Card Party - Launches Wi-Fi SD Cards
Currently there is no mention of rival firms here - or of rival approaches that have also emerged since 2005. So the encyclopedia entry ends up giving the misleading impression that the original pioneer Eye-Fi has the field completely to itself.
I'm happy to have a go at minor amendments, but a better solution might be to split the article into two. One can remain about the particular firm Eye-Fi, and another should be about the category of wireless memory cards and similar devices. There is the article Secure Digital, but it's already long and gives hardly any space to WiFi SD cards.
The Eye-Fi article could have a short history section added, and then continue as now about its products. Coverage of the technology better belongs in the general wireless memory cards article. Anything more than a mention of other brands such as such SanDisk, PQI, Transcend and Toshiba also belongs there, or in the entries for those particular firms. But if we stick with just this Eye-Fi article to deal with Wi-Fi SD cards, they do need some mention here for balance.
Finally it is important to say that all these products that build WiFi capability into the memory card are now facing growing competition from a different source. The cameras and other devices into which people put SD cards are acquiring their own WiFi functionality. This may end up being a better or worse approach - it's not for Wikipedia to say. But as a reference work it does need to reflect that this movement is happening. The general article could touch on the players (e.g. virtually all consumer camera makers!) and perhaps the pros and cons of the alternative cards-versus-camera approaches.
Eye-Fi first started started putting beta devices into the hands of the paying public at the end of 2006. By the end of the following year they were widely on sale. That's a long time ago in technology terms. It's hardly surprising the category covered here has developed.

In an e-mail titled 'Important News Regarding your Eye-Fi Card' dated June 30, 2016 they announced that shutting off support and required functionality for many of their cards:
