For an at least 5 year old intel iMac, now running 10.5.8, can I upgrade directly to Mountain Lion (10.8), or do I have to take it a step at a time? PS: No matter what I do, I do need to run Software Update after the system update, I think. Nov 16, 2012  The numeral just to the right of the dot means the reference release, the thing you pay money to get, such as 10.5 or 10.6 or 10.7. If the version shows a second dot to the right of the reference release numeral, that number or those numbers to the right of the dot mean the updated version, such as 10.5.2 or 10.5.8. Jan 21, 2015  How can I update my Max OSX 10.5.8 to at least 10.6 or higher when my computer says my software is 'up to date'? With the 10.5.8 version I cant use the new version of itunes which means I can't sync my ipad 😟.

Mac OS Leopard 10.5 is the sixth release by Mac OS for Apple’s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. It is available in two editions: for desktop or personal computers and server version (Mac OS X Server). The retail price for the desktop version is $129 and $499 for the server version. It was released on October 26, 2007.

This is the final version of Mac OS X which can support the PowerPC structure as snow leopard function only on Intel-based Macs. The latest released is 10.5.8 (Build 9L31a) on August 13, 2009. Its kernel type is hybrid (XNU). This version is preceded by Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and succeeded by Mac OS X snow leopard. It is the first operating system that has open-source BSD to be certified as fully UNIX cooperative.
